This Black Child + the MET Police event is being held to address the critical issues faced by Black youth in London, as highlighted by the Casey Review. The review found that 54% of children in custody in London are from Global Majority backgrounds, despite making up only 18% of the 10-17-year-old population. This stark overrepresentation is a clear indication of the systemic challenges and inequalities faced by young Black people in their interactions with the police and the criminal justice system.

Furthermore, the Casey Review revealed that Black Caribbean pupils in London are nearly three times more likely to be permanently excluded from school compared to their White British classmates. This disproportionate exclusion rate not only hinders their educational opportunities but also increases their vulnerability to negative experiences with law enforcement.

The event aims to bring together 100 Black youth from across London to amplify their voices, share their experiences, and work collaboratively with the Met Police to drive meaningful change. By fostering open dialogue, providing leadership development workshops, and connecting young people with mentors and internship opportunities, we seek to empower the next generation of Black leaders to challenge systemic inequalities and advocate for fair and equal policing of our youth.

The Casey Review serves as a stark reminder that urgent action is needed to address the deep-rooted disparities faced by Black youth in London. Through "The Black Child + the MET Police" event, we aim to create a platform for young people to be heard, to hold those in power accountable, and to work towards a more equitable and just society. By investing in the potential of Black youth and promoting collaboration with law enforcement, we can build a future where every young person, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to thrive and succeed in London.

"Black Youth and the Met Police - We Will Be the Change - 100 Black Youth with One Voice."
