Neighbourhood-Based Peer Mentoring: Building Community from Within Our Neighbourhood-Based Peer Mentoring represents a powerful grassroots approach that transforms young people's lives the spaces which they live.
Turning isolation into connected communities of mutual support. Rather than extracting young people from their environments, this model recognises the social housing estates and the people that live on them as sites of strength, relationship-building, and positive change. |
Using strengths-based approachesSince 2019, we have been operating directly on social housing estates in Homerton in Hackney. Our peer mentoring model leverages the organic relationships that already exist within the community.
Creating better LivesYoung people aged 14-21 are trained as peer mentors to support younger residents aged 8-14 who may be experiencing lack of opportunities, social networks, educational challenges, the results of youth violence, mental health, social isolation, and barriers to accessing services

An asset-led ecosystem
The beauty of this approach lies in its proximity - peer mentors and mentees often live in the same blocks, and our team lives either in or close to the neighbourhood, creating authentic relationships built on shared experiences and geographical belonging. Supporting our team, including peer mentors are an amazing network of parent supports who assist with delivering and promoting our services and corporate volunteers who provide free career mentoring.
